When it comes to BOTOX®, one of the most frequently asked questions is – how long does it last? Naturally, people wonder if there is anything that can make it last longer? Typically, the smoothing effect of BOTOX® lasts around 3-months, though some patients get a little bit longer. However, results and longevity may vary from person to person. I have three tips to consider that may increase the effect and longevity of your BOTOX® treatment.
1. ZINC SUPPLEMENTS
In the past several years, there have been around 260 papers published about BOTOX®, making it the most studied neuromodulator on the US market. Among these studies, a few have shown that zinc supplements may enhance the longevity of BOTOX® results. How does this work? Zinc is a nutrient that plays a key role in metabolizing proteins, such as collagen. Collagen, a component of skin, starts to lose its elasticity around age 30. By supplementing with zinc, which supports the skin’s integrity and elasticity, you may be able to prolong the effectiveness of your BOTOX® treatment.
2. DOSAGE
You may have heard the popular phrase, “dosage equals duration” in the world of neuromodulators. This means the amount of Botox® you receive will have a direct impact on how long its effect will last. While the FDA-recommended dosage works well for most patients, those with stronger facial muscles may require a slightly higher dose to achieve the desired longevity. Some providers customize your dose according to the strength of your muscle movement and the depth of lines the muscle contractions make, which may lead to underdosing. If you feel your treatment is wearing off too quickly, it’s important to talk to your provider about adjusting the dosage. Adequate dosing is key to achieving longer-lasting results.
