What’s one thing that Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and Cleopatra all had in common?
They shaved their face.
Yes, that’s right. Beautiful women, who, I think we all can agree, were feminine in every way, shaved their face.
Was it because they had a manly beard or awful mustache? Probably not. These women shaved their face because of the surprisingly amazing benefits a razor to the face can reap.
First off, let’s debunk the ancient myth that the more you shave the thicker your hair will grow back. This just isn’t true. Why do we think that? We tend to mistake that wispy feeling of our facial hair with the slightly blunt feeling we experience as our hair starts to grow back. If you have ever shaved your arms you may know what I am talking about. When the hair on your arms starts to grow back it feels almost prickly. However, if you look closely at the hairs they are just as fine as they were the day before you shaved them. It is the same thing with our facial hair. Actually, the “peach fuzz” like hair we have on our face is called vellus hair. Vellus hairs can cause your skin to look lackluster and can contribute to clogged pores keeping your skin from that beautiful, youthful glow. Most people have these tiny hairs and I bet you know someone who shaves them off!
In the professional world of aesthetics shaving a face is called dermaplaning. By definition, dermaplaning is a very simple mechanical method of exfoliation. Estheticians often offer this service specifically for the exfoliation benefits, but the other advantage is that it rids the face of those tiny, annoying hairs. An esthetician can do this for you, or, you can do it yourself in the comfort of your home. Don’t worry, no shaving cream necessary and you won’t use your husband’s (boyfriend’s) razor so there is no need to lock the bathroom door for fear of total embarrassment.
Here’s what you will do:
- Go to Sally’s and purchase a Touch N Brow eyebrow razor. Should be around $5.
- Wash your face thoroughly to remove any product, make-up, dirt, etc.
- Be sure your skin is dry before you begin.
- Pull the skin taut, hold razor at a 45 degree angle and move downward in short strokes. Be sure to use short strokes instead of one downward motion.
- You can shave every part of your face so have at it!
- Once finished, continue with your skincare regimen post-cleanse.
- Be sure to wash your razor, you can even use alcohol to cleanse it of any impurities post-shave.
Once finished you should notice your face is immediately smoother all over and your make-up goes on much easier. You may not want to stop touching your smooth, soft skin. But we recommend keeping your hands off your face.
What are you waiting for? Go shave that face with pride and feel young look young!
